AGRICULTURE IN NEPAL
In Nepalese society, Agriculture is still the backbone of an economy. According to the population census of 2001 A.D., a large portion of an active population is involved in agriculture. There is a close a close relation between Nepalese society and agriculture. It is the backbone for the economic development of Nepali community.
There is the most difficulty of the Nepalese is based on agriculture. It is the main basis of livelihood for the Nepali people living here from the mountains to the Terai. Nepali has not yet made much progress in the field of industrial development. For the reason also agriculture has become has a basis of the life of Nepali people. But there is low productivity in agriculture due to the lack of fertilizer, seeds, irrigation, advanced technology and unequal distribution of land and land structure. Though many people are dependent on agriculture, the situation of food crisis has been increasing daily in Nepal. On the other hand, due to the lack of marketization of agriculture, it has remained limited to subsistence only. However, It is the backbone of a national economy.
Nowadays, agriculture is the main sector for uplifting the standard of living of Nepali people because there are many people are dependent on agriculture for employment and income. Industrial and sustainable economic development is possible only through the development of agriculture. So, all kind of infrastructure should be developed to do farming in a modern way by protecting and promoting the labour, skill, capacity and technology of farmers to guarantee their welfare, Paddy, maize, wheat, millet, barley, lentils, potato, vegetables, jute, tobacco, and fruits should be promoted as per climate of the country. In the context of Nepal, agriculture has a great importance. It can be presented pointwise follows:

In Nepalese society, Agriculture plays an important role in the daily life of most of the people. The percent of families dependent on agriculture is almost two-third. So, it is closely interrelated with Nepalese life. From mountains through Hills to the Terai there are various kinds of productions as per geographical diversity. The people of all these regions have made agriculture the basis of their livelihood. Employment in industry, services and other sectors is very limited in Nepal. So, the major sector for work and involvement for Nepalese people is agriculture. Nepal which has just entered into the field of industrial development, the development of agricultural industries can be easier. Most of the industries like medicine, garment, paper and food are agro-based industries. It is the main source of earning foreign currency. In Nepal, since sectors like industry, trade, exchange and service have not developed well, the agriculture sector has become the important sector/sourced of national income. In Nepalese people, a growing global food crisis, agriculture sector can contribute a lot to solving the problem. There is a widespread shortage of food within Nepal itself. There is the scarcity of food in the far hills and the Himalayan region of Nepal. It is the importance of agriculture can be very great in his situation. But it is necessary for agriculture to be modern and market-oriented.
