Role of Women in Household Decision Making
Nepal is a small, Poor Landlocked developing country with Enormous Cultural and Ethnic diversity. Women play a key role in the development of a nation. Thought all societies in Nepal are male dominated, a status of women slightly differs with the different culture and ethnic group. In general women have comparative less access to income, wealth, employment, education and health facilities, then men. But in recent years people have started realizing the justification of women’s participation in the economic and social development. Women spend much more time than men on subsistence activities and domestic work.
Women constitute nearly more than 51.50 present of the population in Nepal. Women in Nepal contribution more than men to the agriculture sector and there most of the responsibilities of household food security. In many develop countries men and women are considered as two wheels of the cart. Besides their significant contribution to income generating activities, they provide immense services in the house, washing the clothes, taking care of children. Thus, their situation is characterised by being overloaded with work but still not duty recognized for their labour contribution. They Lack access to resources services and have virtually no control over their own learning and assets.
Their status is secondary to that of men. Such unfavorable situation not only badly affects on women's productivity can contribute to growth, efficiency and poverty reduction the main goal of the nation.
In recent would scenario, women have been actively participating in the political and social aspects. Indira Gandhi, Margaret Thatcher, Benazir Bhutto, Mother Teresa may be taken as the example of women in public life. In general the participation means involvement of somebody in any activity but in the specific sense, it is viewed as active process in which the participants take initiatives and actions these are stimulated by their own thinking and by deliberation, The fruits of development couldn’t be achieved without participation of women in a proper quantum and quality. Statement of the Problem
As women spend move time within and around the household. In the Nepalese context, women’s participation in the decision-making process is very low though their population covers the country. Nepalese women who constitute more than half of the population are still confined within the four walls of their houses. They are advantaged and underprivileged in terms of their social-economic status as compared is that women are weak passive and household oriented, less intelligent and less capable than men.
The Hindu ideology discriminates against women to a greater extent. Mongolian communities have been found to be relatively liberal than other castes in terms of women mobility and their access to decision-making within households. Nepalese believes in traditional and religion though women ideology discriminates in the society. Reservation for women has limited in the papers, slogan, and speech. They are discrimination in the sector of decision making and are not considered as main parts of development activities. Men and women have equal rights to live, but there is social injustice due to which women have weak decision-making in the household as well as in society. Men have the major role in decision-making inside the household as well as outside. A Man said that women are to be involving house, not outside the field.
Women are engaged in their in their household activities. They play a key role inside the household. They household services like cooking, cleaning, feeding, caring children and fuel wood caring disable member of the family are not monetized. Women contribute more labor to the household economic than men, but their active participation has not reflected in the national policy making level.
Objective of the Study
In general objective of this study has to find out the status of women’s role in the decision-making and their practice of program. The objectives of the study are
- To find the general status of women in Chadha or VDC.
- To analyze the role of women in their household decision-making.
- To find out the influencing factor of women’s role in decision-making.
Signification of the Study
Women’s participation in decision-making has been a very important role for the overall development of the nation. Women in decision-making power from local level to national. The Level is one of the basic aspects of nation building. Political, social, economic and health status is a highly important of women making power participation and partnership of both man and Women is required in productive and reproductive life including shared responsibilities.
Women human right is very low from the men. The empowerment of women and equality between women and men are prerequisites to achieving political, social-cultural and economic and environment development.

- Finding of this study have been helpful for any development organizations policy makers, planner and student and communities to take appropriate strategy to empower women for future to improve quality life inequitable manner.
Limitation of the Study
The limitation of this study is as follows
- This study is narrowed to the household decision-making of women at Dhadhawar VDC Wada-1, 3, 6 of Bardiya, District.
- The percent study highlights the existing situations of women role in household decision-making and it’s influencing factors.
- The fulfill the objectives, the needs information have been collected from the sample unit only.
- The percent study has been conducted within given time from and financial limitation.
- The generalization will not be equally applicable to other areas with different social-cultural and economic characteristics.
