MINERALS IN NEPAL
Minerals play an important role in the development of a country. We can have huge benefits if we can search, identify and professionally promote naturally created minerals. Minerals like iron, gold, copper, coal, lead, petrol, zinc, slate, limestone and sulphur are found below the surface of the earth. We can have a huge economic gain if we can use such resources. But in Nepal much gain has not been using such mineral resources. But in Nepal much gain has not been made using of study, research, technology infrastructure and capital. In some cases, a feasibility study has been done but in other cases it has not been from the ancient time. We have not been able to make proper use of it. According to different studies and researches, there is iron mine in the Fulchowki hills of Lalitpur district. It has been speculated that there could be iron mines in those of Ramechhap, Chitwan, Pyuthan, and Bajhang. Preliminary knowledge reveals that there are copper mines in Baglung, Myagdi, Gulmi and Taplejung. Slate and limestone found in different parts of Nepal are being used. Study and research are to be done about other minerals. Conduction of mines has not become of a subject of government's priority yet. Attention has not been paid to the study and conduction of such mines. So, Nepal is dependent in terms of all kind of mineral resources. A lot of money has gone out from these Billions of rupees has gone out from different metals and petroleum products. It weakness national economy.
Reasons for the lack of development of mineral resources in Nepal can be presented as follows:
- Research and study have not been done about minerals. The government has not given priority to this. Studies and researches of the university are silent on this issue. Some such works are limited to formality.
- Lack of adequate investment is another problem. We need a huge amount of money for this. But a government is not prepared for this. The government has not prepared the environment for attracting foreign investment.
- Lack of skilled manpower.
- Lack of infrastructure likes transportation, communication and electricity.
- There is also a lack of plans. Due to the lack of which programs have not been developed for the development of minerals.
- Lack of modern instruments.
- Government's indifference is another main reason.
- The problem in policy.
- Development of minerals resources can have following advantages for the Nepalese economy.
- Supports the development of industries. Contributes to industrialization.
- Development of minerals can help in making the country self-reliant, strong, rich. prosperous etc. Today we are spending a lot of money for this.
- Can be the main basis for the creation of employment. A single minerals factory can provide thousands of jobs.
- Helps to earn foreign currency.
- Minerals provide necessary building materials for the country.
- Can be a great help to areas like agriculture, water resources and cattle breeding.
- Proper utilization of manpower and increase in economy of the country.
