Demographic characteristics


This chapter deals with the demographic, social and economic characteristics of respondents. The characteristics of respondents in many aspects like age composition religious composition education status income etc.

Demographic characteristics
In this section, the demographic characteristics such as sample population by age, marital status, age at marriage, age at first birth no. of CEB and family planning use have analysed.

In demography, age composition is the composition of a population according to the number and proper proportion of a population in each age category. Decision-making role are different in people according to their ages.

A person who has lived as husband and wife after being married religiously or socially and legally. It maintains the social structures given continuity to the society and helps to sustain social development, which determines the social roles and responsibilities of people.

Age at marriage is one of the most important factors, which is a key determinant of the fertility. Marriage marks the point in a woman’s life when childbearing becomes socially. Marriage is one of the universal social institutions in our society. Marriage determines the social roles and responsibilities of people. The early age at first birth increases the relatively longer period if childbearing ages of childbearing, which might help to reduce the fertility.

Family planning means the conscious effort of the couples to regulate the no. & spacing of the births through artificial & natural methods of conception. Family planning cann't control conception to a avoid pregnancy & abortion but it also includes the efforts of couples to induce pregnancy. Family planning programmes play a key role in providing information and services that help people make informed reproductive right and use of contraceptives safely and effectively family planning is to make the family life happy through appropriate management of family size and mobilization of various sources. The greatest contribution of family planning program lies in avoiding unwanted pregnancies and thereby unplanned birth and make sure that all births are planned.

Ever use of family planning methods may have significance impact to manage the rapid growing population and environment problems. Most of the underdeveloped and developing countries are out of its proper use because of the traditional, low level of education and non-availability.

Table 4.1 presents the demographic characteristic of respondents. The highest proportion of respondents (44.45) is found in age group (25-34) years. The lowest proportion if the respondents are found in age 45 and above years (12.59)

In the study area, among 135 respondents only (12.59) percent respondent’s widow, divorced and (87.400) percent are married.

Table 4.1 shows the percentage of women who have married by specific ages. Marriage occurs relatively early in study area the highest percent of respondents (63.70) got married age group of (16-20) years and (23.70) below 16 years. The lowest percent (12.95) of women got married age group of 21+ so we can say that in the study area early age at marriage is very high.

The age of women at the time of first child birth rate in this study below 20. Only (17.09) percent are given first birth 201+. It is found that among 135 respondents (27.40) percent women respondents are found self-household head because men their husband were in foreign employment. (48.89) percent household head men are respondents and (23.40) percent are other family members.

It is found that among 135 only 60 percent use contraception and 40 percent have not used any one method.
