Socio-Economic Characteristics


In this section socio-economic characteristics like religion, educational status, landholding, occupation status and monthly income of the respondents has been analyzed.

Nepal is a multi-religion country. People of different religious groups have their own traditional values system governing their future life and decision-making power. In the study area mainly two religious are found.

Education is one of the most important indicators of development. It can play the crucial role for the dignity and prosperity of the nation. Education has positive correlation with a national scenario. It directly or indirectly affects the demographic and socio-economic variable such as income, occupation, health etc. This field survey has collected data on two main educational features of the population: literacy status and level of education of the respondents.

Landholding size is one of the key economic well-being of the community or person. Nepal is the agricultural country and most of the people depend upon the agriculture as the main occupation. Occupation is a person’s job of profession or any activity in which someone’s time is spent. Occupation is the principal as the main occupation. Occupation is the principal activity in our life that we do to earning.

Household facilities also indicate the economic status of the family. Home facilities is one of the important factors that indirectly related to household decision-making process.

In the study area, the majority of the populations are Hindu 81.48 percent, Buddhists are 14.81 percent and Christian are 3.70 percent from the table. It is observed that 59.29 percent respondents are found literate and 40.71 percent respondents are illiterate (Table 4.2) in the study area, some respondents have attended the informal education 12.25 in the sense of formal education majority of the respondents have attended the primary education 50.0 percent. Above table also shows that Secondary level has passed 25 percent. The lowest 12.25 percent, of respondents, have completed their level.

Table 4.2 shows that most of the respondents (40.74) highest percent of households are involved in foreign employment 11.11 percent are involved in Business/Industry involved in agriculture 18.52 percent, are involved in service and 17.78 percent are involved in wage/labouring. In the study area, most of the respondents’ 44.45 households 6-20 Katha land 33.34 percent households have up to 5 Katha land and lowest 22.33 percent households have 21 and more Katha land.

It is observed that the majority of the respondents are involved in housewife (66.67) percent and lowest 11.12 percents of respondents are involved in service/Business and 22.23 percent respondents are involved in wage/labouring. Table 4.2 indicates that 70.37 percent of the household had radio facility. The majority (92.59 percent of the household have mobile facility and 55.56 percent of household 48.15 percent of households had TV facilities. That area the lowest (11.86) of households have motorcycle facility.
